Bear has gotten into dinosaurs in a big way at the moment, I was watching some reels on Instagram a few months ago and a reel came up with a crocheted triceratops in it by loopsbyemmielou. Well, bear loved this video and kept asking to watch again. I had a look at the the profile and found out that the pattern was “tanner the triceratops” and decided I would make one.

I used bernat yarn and a 5mm hook. I hadn’t really clicked when I was looking at the patterns that there was also a mini tanner pattern as well and bought the normal sized one. This meant that my tanner was a lot bigger than I expected and I had to buy a second ball of yarn for a really small part. Because of this it was quite an expensive make when you also factor in buying the white and grey yarn along with the safety eyes and stuffing. But it was worth it as I love him!

So here is Tanner is in all his glory!

I love Tanner, I am so chuffed with it and I think it is one of my best makes I have done. I stuffed him just right so he is nice and cuddly. He is massive though and is actually quite heavy so bear isn’t too keen on him just yet I think for those reasons.

I also wanted to make Arlo from the good dinosaur. I found a pattern here on WordPress and again used bernat yarn and 5mm hook. I’d used the head off another pattern but the neck, body and legs are from this one and I changed the bottom of his feet to grey.

You can see he’s a lot smaller and bear seems to favour this one over tanner as he can carry it around by the neck. I hope over time bear likes them both more, but I don’t think either will replace he bedtime cuddly!

What giant amigurumi have you tried if any? I’d love to see them. I see so many different animals on instagram that I want to try.

They look awesome! I haven’t really made any giant amigurumi, it’s kind of hard to access Bernat blanket in Australia but I’d love to make a huge dino for my son as well, he is obsessed at the moment!

I think any similar chenille yarn would do to be honest. The person on Instagram used yarn bee adore-a-ball which I hadn’t heard of before. I definitely recommend the pattern as it was so easy to follow, even for an amateur amigurumi maker like me!
