I have had a lovely weekend and was sad to see it end. On Saturday morning I took one of my friends to Wiltshire Scrapstore to get some material to make some Glastonbury inspired banners for a birthday party. She had never been before but I go a lot through my ‘proper’ job, and often get supplies from there when doing projects with the young people.
We managed to get our hands on some ripstock nylon scrap, which is exactly what we were looking for! These came from old hot air balloons and it was just what we needed as they had plenty of different colouts for us to choose from.
We grabbed as much as we could and took our sack away with us after paying just £5 for our loot.
On Saturday evening we put on my Bridesmaids DVD and started to make our banners. I used my sewing machine to sew the tops of the material so that we could stick a rod through the top in order to be able to hang them at the party venue. I wasn’t sure how well I’d be able to sew ripstock nylon but it was surprisingly easy and not as slippery as i thought it would be. The trick is to hold it as tight as possible and use a good needle, i still had on my leather one which worked fine.
We were being inspired by the banners and flags you see at Glastonbury so we set about cutting out random shapes from the coloured ripstock and then did a running stitch by hand to secure the shapes to the banner. Here are our attempts, I’m pretty pleased with them, and what scrap we have left over I will be using at work to create some banners with the young people for the youth centre.
I think we did really well, even if I do say so myself!!
Sunday was a nice relaxing day which started off with a 4km run. I bought a fitbit flex (in pink of course!)last week as a motivation to start getting fitter. I am really liking it at the moment, and I like the fact that I can sync it with my phone and check how I am doing throughout the day with my steps.
D and I went over to my mum and dad’s so that we could finally give her her birthday pressie, as I was poorly last weekend. I got her a jumper and I also am making her a cowl (which I am yet to finish). The pattern is the honey cowl on ravelry and it is a lovely pattern! I am using king Cole riot yarn in cool which is lovely to knit with although it does seem to malt over me.
My mum loves the wool, so I need to get a move on to finish it otherwise it will be too warm for her to wear it!!
Last night I also managed to get a bit of cross stitch done as well and finish off a very late Christmas pressie!!
Hope you all had lovely weekends, did you make anything? would love to hear what you have been doing.
xoxo
